SB 71 -- DISASTER SERVICE VOLUNTEERS

SPONSOR:  Griesheimer (Nieves)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on General Laws by a vote of 7 to 0.

This bill allows state employees to be granted leave with pay
while participating as a disaster service volunteer for the State
Emergency Management Agency.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and
FY 2008.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will give state
employees the same benefit while volunteering for the State
Emergency Management Agency as those volunteering for the
American Red Cross.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Griesheimer.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
