SB 71 -- DISASTER SERVICE VOLUNTEERS SPONSOR: Griesheimer (Nieves) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on General Laws by a vote of 7 to 0. This bill allows state employees to be granted leave with pay while participating as a disaster service volunteer for the State Emergency Management Agency. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and FY 2008. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will give state employees the same benefit while volunteering for the State Emergency Management Agency as those volunteering for the American Red Cross.
